Bubble Curtain in various applications

The deployment of big bubble curtains (BBC) has become standard practice during pile driving activities for offshore wind farms (OWF) all over the world. Our clients from the offshore wind industry rely on us to provide the planning and engineering of bubble curtain solutions for their specific needs, depending on local circumstances such as water depth, current speeds, legal regulations and flawless integration of our services into the simultaneous operations (SIMOPS), that are happening within OWF construction sites.

Bubble curtains are also used to mitigate sound that is emitted from underwater explosions. Just as it is done on land, future construction sites at sea are searched for leftovers from past wars to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment during the planned works. As coastal waters were subject to heavy bombardments during both world wars, the conducted surveys more often than not uncover large amounts of unexploded bombs, which then have to be purposely detonated before construction can commence. The resulting explosions create sound pressure peaks which even surpass those of pile driving works, so bubble curtains are deployed around the detonation sites in a very similar way as it's done for pile driving.

Bubble curtains in near shore environments often face very different challenges than in offshore applications. During construction of jetties, terminals or other port facilities, the source of construction noise sometimes originate from the same general area without changing over months - which means that the bubble curtain must stay in place for the same amount of time, without its operators having the chance to maintain it during recovery or relocations. For situations as such, we have developed hose systems that can remain submerged over long periods of time without requiring any maintenance, clearly setting us apart from our competitors and the status quo of the industry, which often still relies on poorly optimized, maintenance-heavy offshore solutions.
